A Tribute to Lola
June 28th, 2004 - October 18, 2009

Chloe and I loved that we shared the same birthday month as Lola, and until Josie came along, Chloe would say, "All the girls in our family were born in June!"
This was the day we brought her home! It all started when I mentioned to Hans that it might be good to have a dog as a running companion...that day he emailed me a picture of some yellow labs in Pleasant Grove. We just went to "look" and we were goners!
This was the day we first met her, and we picked her because she was sassy and fun! Also her beautiful white coloring made her irresistible! We just had to wait a few weeks until she was old enough to come home with us!
You can't get much cuter than this!
It wasn't long until we figured out Lola was a total water dog! Without hesitation she would do an awesome cannon ball doggy dive into the river after any stick! Swim with the current, find it and returned triumphant!
I'm telling you, she really goes for it! It is a total launch and huge splash!
Returning to Hans
Victory! She made it and is ready for more!

Taking Lola to the river was definitely one of our family's most favorite activities in the spring and summer! Hans would hook up the harness and Lola would pull him on his long board down the river trail. They would be going fast and they both loved it!
Her common place in the kitchen to catch anything that the kids might drop at the bar...she ended up needing a diet because the kids were so nice to her...she loved it!
We bought this rug (Life is a ball) last year when we were visiting the "Dog Chapel" in Vermont. We wrote a remembrance for Moki (our Scottish Terrier) and put it up in the chapel, now we will have to return and post one for Lola.
Josie was never afraid of Lola, she would lay in her bed with her and Lola loved it...maybe because Josie would let her lick off any leftovers on her face!
Lola, loved the snow, she could go for hours and hours playing with kids! Her favorite thing to do was to just roll around in it, scratching her face and back, it was so funny to watch!

Here is a tiny video showing you a little back scratch episode!
She had a lot of fun chasing the kids while they would sled at the cabin!
This last Christmas, everyone got matching jammies, even Lola! She didn't love it, but the kids sure did!

Lola was never happier than when we were camping, especially in Moab!
She loved running free, rolling in the red dirt and chasing the kids on their bikes and motorcycles! She usually came home a pinkish/orangish hue and then slept for 3 days straight from sheer joyful exhaustion!

My one regret is that we don't have a picture of what Lola and I did together......
Lola and I ran!
She loved to run, and she was a great running companion. I started training her early and she was awesome until she became a little stronger than me and pulled my shoulder out when running after a cat one day. Then we got smart and started running with the gentle leader. She was great, but the occasional cat, dog, bunny, chicken and near the end...a few rocks, yes rocks would cause her to freak out and go faster than I could possibly manage! When she saw my running shoes on, her tail would start wagging and she would rear up like a bucking horse...she loved to run!

We all wanted to share our favorite memory of Lola.....

Hans: I loved playing with her anywhere near water. Lola loved getting wet and swimming. She had so much energy it seemed like she never wanted to stop. Then we would get home and she would fall asleep on the kitchen floor laying on her back in the spread eagle position. The best part of that was the way her jowls would hang in that upside down position, it made her look like she was smiling. . . I think she really was!
Traci: Definitely out on the road running! She was our leader, telling us where to go, turning at all the right corners.....she was always so happy to be out running! I wear her tag on our runs now so she knows we won't ever forget her! I say "we" because she was one of the "running girls!"
Gray: I loved going down to the Provo river and having Lola pull me on a long board and I wouldn't even need to put my foot down to push once because Lola would pull me all the way!
Chloe: "I thought it was so funny that all the neighbor kids were so afraid of her, and screamed when they saw her out, but she wasn't ever scary!"
Tru: " I loved it when Lola was straddled while trying to climb the red rock in Moab, she was so funny!"
Rock: "I loved to lay in her bed with her when she had her really soft buzz haircut...she was so soft!"
Josie: "I play with her...I play with her ball and that makes me happy!"
We love you Lola girl, you will be a part of our family forever!

What a sweet tribute! She really was a part of your family. I have always been amazed at how well you did that! It almost makes me want a dog--almost!

Oh Traci that brought a tear to my eye... Lola sounds just like our dog Africa, she would pull Dad around the park a few times (5km loop) a day... stopping at each lake for a wee chase of the ducks, and at the beach she would swim after a stick, in the strongest rip, and bring it back and then keep going till she was so exhausted she would be vomiting salt water every time she came back on land (and passersby would be accusing us of dog cruelty)... she loved it. she couldn't get enough of water. We miss her still. Sigh. She also used to sleep spread eagled on the kitchen floor.... Just a word of advice, chickens and tiger worms do not make a good substitute for a dog like that xxx
