Spring Break 2010

So after a hectic start....a little later than planned....but that's the usual drill, we caravaned to Moab with the Knells. Hans lead with his truck pulling the silver unimog, I followed pulling the trailer, Gretchen was pulling the red unimog and Abe brought up the rear in his saweet RV! By the time we made it to camp, it was bedtime. I was pooped, but got this shot of our sleeping arrangement in the trailer...I get top bunk with Hans. Grayson and his friend Tanner froze outside in the tent! He he! I love teenage boys!

In the morning, we had some pancakes and up rides our friend James Lovell on his mountain bike. We were expecting them, but in a truck pulling a trailer. He got into a little trouble and needed some creative help. We jumped into the unimog and went to help.

Yep, he needed some help.....that tire was at least 15 inches off the ground. I'm not sure what they did, but we finally got him through! Just a tiny bit of damage to the trailer's bumper! Totally worth it to get back to our amazing camp spot!
After they got all set up, all 18 of us loaded into the two unimogs and went for a ride! You can see our camp spot behind. We are right underneath Balcony Arch. It is incredible! We camped here last year and loved it so much we wanted to come back. There is a better picture of the arch here. Hans has an awesome projector that he used to show movies on the rock....it was amazing, as big as in a theater, but way cooler feel!
Hans lead the way, when you are going up something this steep, all you can see is blue sky....a little freaky!
Abe followed, this being his first unimog adventure! Not only did he rock it....he had a....
BLAST!!!!
Like a kid in a candy store....the little demon face is hilarious!
We came across this guy....man was he sweet! I asked him to stop for a picture for Rock and he yelled out to me..."2 1/2 years and 3 divorces".....WHAT? Oh man did we laugh and laugh! We later found out that he rolled his vehicle and dislocated his shoulder....bummer, I guess he can add that to his list of accomplishments!
A little self timer fun at "nose dive!"
This is the whole group....James, Abe, Gretchen, Zac, Leigh Anne, Braiden, Grayson, Tanner
Hans, Josie, Me, Mckay, Truman, Chloe, Hunter, Rockwell, Sadie, Lucy and Bailey
We had a blast over at the sand dunes close by, it felt like a roller coaster!
The next day we decided to go to Arches and hike to delicate arch. We weren't sure how it would go with Josie, but she was the happiest little hiker I've ever seen!
The girls, Sadie, Bailey and Chloe beat us all up there and were sitting there waiting for a picture when we came around the corner!
She did it!
Two amazing Rocks found in Utah!
Tru said that it totally wasn't worth it.....at least he still smiled for me!
Darling girl!
Poser boy

Some of our gang! What is up with Gray showing his abs all the time...he says I'm jealous. Duh! We were joined by Hans' brother Eric's family. Max and Josephine slept out at camp with us for 3 nights, they loved it! Josephine even asked if she could come with us next spring break....I told her I was holding out for Mexico. Ha ha!
How is he the only one that got a picture under the arch with no other people around? People were everywhere!
We love southern Utah.....such a spectacular place!
Gray helped out Josie on the way down...I've never heard such giggling!
After arches, we went to one of our most favorite places.....by the way it is dwindling, it isn't going to be there much longer, so we are so glad we have enjoyed it!
The SAND HILL!
Hiking to the top is a huge accomplishment...look how far away the cars are!

One of our favorite things to do is to run down as fast as you can....here is a video of Truman and this is what usually happens.....notice he has to turn around and pick up his glasses....

Gross.....he absolutely loved it!
After hiking with our families...we started to get the itch for a little adventure run.... so we got up early the next morning, drove an hour and ran to delicate arch. It was a burner, for the legs and the lungs, but I truly felt so alive! I have awesome friends that like to try these crazy things as much as I do....and it is so much fun doing it together! Thanks Leigh and Gretch!
Around the other side of the butte we were camping under is another arch....Picture Frame arch!
We drove the unimog around and hiked up.
This is from inside the arch. It really is quite square, and inside it is like a bowl that opens up to the sky! So cool!

After getting up early for the Saturday ride we had been looking forward to all week and getting rejected because our vehicles weren't licensed, we had other fun! We stopped at Hole in the Rock! Rock loved that his name was on the mountain! It is a crazy place, but fun for a laugh!

We had such a great time...we've never camped 5 nights before...it might be one night too long....all of us ran out of water and we've never been so dirty! We love our friends, they were so easy going and we all had so much fun together....isn't it the greatest when your kids don't fight because there are so many great people around?
Thanks Knells and Lovells! Let's do it again!

that looks like SO MUCH FUN!!!! I would have been in for all of that (well, maybe not so much the crazy driving up the rocks). I just finished reading The Undaunted... sounds like the perfect trip to do after reading that book :) Thanks for all the beautiful photos xx Suzy
