This is Bermuda!
A teeny tiny island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. 20 square miles, but really about 12 miles long and 1-2 miles wide.
It is the perfect mix of Hawaii and England with a Caribbean color flare!
Tropical, with narrow British roads all edged in old stone walls and English street signs.
Cars drive on the left, they have Minstrels and Maltesers at the gas station and....
the beaches, oh the beaches!
Horeshoe Bay
Well, Bermuda is in a little bit of an "off season." They take a few months off in the cooler part of the year (Dec, Jan and Feb). So it was beautiful and nice, but not hot, baking beach weather. So we rented a saweet scooter (or cycle as they say) and cruised the whole island. It was the best way to go!
Yes, we are fully aware of the fact that we are huge nerds! We embrace it!
We could not get over the intense colors of the houses! So much fun! The pictures are not that great, they were all taken while screaming by on the back of that scooter, while making sure Hans stayed on the left!
We stumbled upon this amazing lane, that was straight out of Tarzan. The trees were all intertwined and sending shoots down that would then root and almost look like it's own tree. We couldn't tell where the tree started or ended!
Then we made our way down to the beach. The color was terrific, when the sun broke through the clouds, just stunning!
Crazy jelly fish on the beach, the next wave took it back out to freedom!
The next two days, I spent reading and relaxing, and Hans worked. Hardly fair, I know, so I won't go into any details. Let's just agree that Hans is quite possibly the most giving, patient and kind guy on this planet. (I love him.)
On our last night, we were headed to dinner and couldn't resist the sunset. It was a definite gratitude moment for both of us. We are so grateful to be able to witness and appreciate the beauty of this earth!
After a great dinner, we drove past the light house and Hans did a cool shot with a 15 second shutter speed and was able to get the lighthouse in all it's glory. Aren't the little windows going up the stairs cool?!
Our last day there, we had until noon to play before we had to catch our flight. We did a little more exploring and hiking.
Walking through the jungle....one of our favorite kid's books!
On our way out to the plane! It was an amazing get away. I think we might be back...during a little warmer time!
On our way home, in the Atlanta airport, I got a message from a friend saying she heard I was in Bermuda and that our neighbor's son was there on his mission. I had no idea, because he was in the NY-NY South mission, I never thought that would include Bermuda. So anyway, I was so bummed. We didn't go to church, but pulled up to the chapel on our little scooter ride as the last of the ward was leaving. We ran into an old Provo friend Clarence Hofheins and his family. They have lived there for 12 years. If we would have showed up for church, we would have seen him and been able to take them to dinner later in the week. Dang....I learned my lesson. Go to church on vacation! ;)
