Oh can I tell you how good it was to see my parents? Sometimes you don't realize how much you miss something until you have it back...even if only for a moment. The big booming hug from my Dad and the sweet tender hug from my Mom moved me to tears. I love you Elder and Sister Pinegar!
The day we arrived in Palmyra, it was raining. We had planned to see the Hill Cumorah Pageant that night and since it was the last night, we had no other options. We got there early to find that Dad had already reserved us a nice row. We got our dinners and ate them under umbrellas and ponchos. The kids loved the excitement. Just as the sun was going down, the rain cleared and we were able to enjoy the nice cool evening. The show was tender, exciting, uplifting and inspiring. I loved the experience of being there and knowing what had happened on this sacred ground before.
Funny Rock...When the lights came down and the music came on, Rock stood up and said at the top of his voice, "I hate this!" Nice.

The next day was Sunday, after church and lunch we had some time at the Hill Cumorah Visitor Center and the Sacred Grove.

Hans offering a tender teaching moment to the young Maglebys.

Hans, Truman and Rockwell just coming out of the Sacred Grove. You can see the Palmyra temple in the distance. Such a beautiful setting.
Elder and Sister Pinegar were able to give us private tours of the Smith Farmhouse, the Whitmer Farm and the Grandin Building (where the Book of Mormon was first printed). They had a lot of fun stories about these families that sacrificed so much for us. It was sobering and it definitely helped us feel more grateful.
Funny Rock...After not sitting so nicely through all the tours given by his amazing grandparents, on the last tour in the Grandin Building, Rock had the nerve to say..."Grandpa, stop talking!" Luckily sweet Elder Pinegar didn't hear his rude grandson. What are we going to do with him?
After all was said and done, the spirit of the few days we spent in Palmyra with Elder and Sister Pinegar was amazing. We learned from them, we felt their love for us, for the Prophet Joseph and for our Savior Jesus Christ. Sister Pinegar loves this sculpture in the visitor center at the Sacred Grove, so tender, so real. Thanks for being such awesome missionaries Elder and Sister Pinegar, we feel blessed to have been able to witness a small part of it!

I'm so glad you got to spend such a wonderful time with your parents! I'm sure they're fantastic people, because they've raised such an awesome daughter (seriously, have I mentioned you're my idol?) I would love to take a huge church history tour! I'm a complete history geek! The pics were beautiful!
I love this post. My parents took us on the church history tour when I was in the 7th grade and it is still one of my favorite vacations. I will NEVER forget the feelings I had when I went to the sacred grove. And double the fun with your parents being there. I want to go back and I can't wait to take my kids.
What peace I feel after reading this post. Thanks for sharing and allowing us visitors to feel as though we were there. I can't wait to meet your parents and thank them for you!
I want to go to Palmyra and have your parents give us a personal tour! What a great experience. Thanks for your sweet Spirit that I felt through this blog! Awesome!
About your funny Rock comments... I have a friend from CA, and her son stood up in the middle of sacrament meeting once and yelled "I hate Jesus. I hate Joseph Smith." He was quickly removed from the chapel by his father. Gotta love kids! :)
Your trip looks awesome though, and so sweet to see your parents! Can't wait to go to those sites myself someday!!
I'm so glad you got to see your parents and visit all those sites! Rock kills me- what a funny kid :)
I found your blog thru Kathy's and now I'm going to stalk it too! I love tuff-man Rock and his comments. He's got GUFF! My mom and step-dad get home from their mission from Nauvoo in a week. This post made me so, so excited they're coming home!
How awesome to be able to do that with your parents. I'm sure it's something your kids will remember forever. I think our Rock is named Liam!
