Well, Rockwell had a great birthday week. A Big party at Jump On It on Wednesday, with an awesome monster truck cake and tons of friends and presents! But it ended with a big bang...Saturday, Rock got a concussion! He was playing around on a big leather chair at our house and ended up falling off it, hitting his head on the wood floor and then the chair fell right on his nose. He had a huge nose bleed, but once that settled down he felt sick and a few minutes later threw up. The babysitter (we were in Logan for a wedding and then up at Sundance for the Why Try Christmas party) was awesome and took care of all the mess, but didn't really link the fall to the throwing up. I got a text at about 9:45 when I was headed home and didn't worry because I was on my way. But when I walked in the door and saw how gray he was, I knew it was the head injury and not a stomach flu. He was awake and coherent, but felt yucky and looked worse. The babysitter's mom (Lisa) was there, (she is one of the best neighbors and friends of all time....when in doubt call Lisa, she'll be there and she'll take care of you!) and she had called her nurse friend. I called Hans and he called our good orthopedic friend Mitch. Mitch called me and said he didn't like the way that sounded and said he wanted to call a friend. Within two minutes our awesome neighbor and ER doctor Chad Swanson called me from the ER. He said if it was his kid he would do a cat scan to rule out any bleeds. It was the excessive vomiting that worried him. 8 times by the time we got down there. Poor little dude!
Here he was on the hospital bed being wheeled down to the cat scan. He got to leave on his cool boots and everything! He said it felt like being in a dryer. While Chad was trying to talk to him to see how coherent he was, we talked about his birthday, then Chad told us a secret....it was 11:45 and his birthday was in 15 minutes! Rock thought that was way cool! Thanks for all your help Dr. Chad, you were awesome!
