St. George Marathon

After a full year of training... I was ready to do the St. George Marathon...that is, until I got a sinus infection a week before.  I felt awful.  I went on antibiotics and decided to do it, even though I wasn't feeling my best.  I had to let my friends go at mile 7, not being able to stay with them.  I plugged in my music and just tried to zone out.  It was hard, but I kept trying to think positive and remember that my body was trained to do it.  I had loosened my shoes because of some chronic foot pain I was having.  At about mile 16, my right big toe was on fire.  But I still had 10 left.  I wasn't in the right frame of mind to check my shoes, so I just kept going....I finished with a PR of 3:52.  I was beat down and exhausted.  So happy for it to be over. Not even caring about my time.  I was just with Laurie and Kathy, so I don't remember taking any pictures....if I find them I will add them to this post.  But the two I did take were me in my bed by 8:00 that night and my sweet toe that took 3 weeks to recover...poor little guy!

PS.  I also promised myself to never put that kind of pressure on myself again.  I love training for a marathon, absolutely love the accomplishment.  But the race is a whole different beast and I really don't like marathons! At all.
